Jones College Prep Counselor Named ‘School Counselor of the Year’
CEO Dr. Janice K. Jackson joined more than 600 Jones College Prep students, teachers and staff as they surprised school counselor Brian Coleman at a special assembly Tuesday, Nov. 27. He was named “School Counselor of the Year” by the American School Counselor Association.

Whitney Young HS Powerlifter Sets National Record
This 17-year-old senior may only be 5’6″ and 180 pounds, but he can lift up to three times his body weight. He set a new national record for powerlifting in a competition in Spokane, Wash. in October.

Curie High School Offers New Classes for Students
In an Intro to Engineering Design class at Curie High School, on the city’s Southwest side, sophomores passionately worked on their miniature bridges. This fall, the school is offering the new class as part of their CTE (Career and Technical Education) Engineering Program.

Dawes Elementary Students Embrace Kindness for Challenge
A dedication to kindness and social-emotional learning (SEL) is what put Dawes as a top 10 finalist out of 500 schools in the nation who participated in the Middle School Kindness Challenge last spring. DonorsChoose, a non-profit organization that allows individuals to donate to a school’s classroom project, created the challenge.
