Simeon HS Culinary Student Dreams Of Opening Restaurant
13 June 2018
Simeon Career Academy grad, Ashton Wiley, has plans to one day open up a restaurant chain across the world.

Learning how to sauté, slice and dice started out as a way to impress women, said a Simeon Career Academy Culinary Arts student.
“I walked in my sophomore year just trying to impress girls, show them that I know how to cook,” said Ashton Wiley, an 18-year-old graduating senior.
Like all students at the Career and Technical Education (CTE) school, Ashton tested different majors until he found the perfect fit. As a boy, he grew up in the kitchen with his mother and grandmother.
“Around holidays, I would say, ‘Let me try to cook that,’” he said. “My mother and grandmother are my biggest inspiration.”
His school’s culinary program was more work than he expected, but he said he was up for the challenge and soon adapted. One of his favorite cuisines to prepare is Italian; chicken alfredo with shrimp has become his staple dish.
“Since I’ve gotten in culinary, now I’m the one doing most of the cooking around the house,” he said.
Ashton has plans to one day open up a restaurant chain across the world, but first he will attend Northern Illinois University and major in business management.
During his time at Simeon he said he has learned more than just cooking techniques, but also lifelong skills that will help him be successful.
“I’ve learned time management and to be prepared for any obstacle that comes my way,” said Ashton.
His advice to incoming freshman?
“Go with your first mind. If you feel like there’s something you have to do, follow your path and keep going. Don’t stop for anyone.”
