A Message from the Principal

Legacy Charter School is a public charter school serving approximately 468 scholars in Kindergarten through 8th grade in Chicago’s North Lawndale community. Legacy is a vibrant center for teaching and learning where children and families are deeply valued. We are committed to recognizing and nurturing the full potential of every scholar, providing a strong foundation for college, and developing creative, critical thinkers who act as responsible citizens in school, at home, and in the broader community. At Legacy, we prepare scholars for success in college and beyond by building a rigorous and joyful academic experience. Beginning with our partnership with Carole Robertson Center’s Pre-K program and continuing through 8th grade, our program emphasizes strong literacy development and deep conceptual understanding across content areas. We are intentional about creating the conditions for sustained academic achievement while ensuring scholars experience challenge, support, and a genuine love of learning. Our approach centers on educating the whole child. Alongside a strong academic program, scholars engage weekly in art, music, drama, and physical education. Scholars also have access to a wide range of enrichment opportunities, including team sports, tutoring, entrepreneurship experiences, and mentoring. We are committed to supporting the full well-being of our scholars and families by providing access to free mental health counseling. We believe that strong schools are built in partnership with families. Legacy has an active Parent Council that provides opportunities for families to engage, lead, and contribute to our school community. Through this partnership, we strengthen our shared commitment to ensuring every scholar thrives.
