Aspen Parent & Student Portal

Step 1

Click the Parent Portal login button above to open the Aspen portal.

Step 2

Click the Parent Portal Password Reset button. Parents may reset their password through this link at any time. Students must contact their school to reset their password.

Step 3

Enter your Login ID and email address. If you cannot locate your Login ID, contact your student's school.

Please contact your school to provide your up-to-date email address and request a Parent Portal account in Aspen. Please note, while your school may have your email address on file from previous communications, it may not have been added to Aspen.

Once parent contact information has been verified by the student’s school, parents will receive a signup email from Aspen. If you don’t receive the signup email, we recommend to check your Spam folder. If you are unable to locate the email, please contact your school for assistance.

After receiving the signup email, you will verify your information, create a password and security question, log into Aspen using your login credentials (email address) and your new password, and then verify the student's first name and date of birth. (MM/DD/YYYY).

What happens if I change my email address? Will I still be able to access my parent portal account?

If you have updated your email address and need to access your Aspen Parent Portal account, please contact your school so they can update your email. However, you will still be able to log in with your old email address, and all communications will be sent to the updated primary email address.

Please contact your child's school to update your contact information.

While no one can stop a bad actor (cyber criminal) from trying to gain access to your Parent Portal account, these cybersecurity hygiene tips can help minimize the risk.

1. Create a strong password. It should be long (at least 12 characters), complex (use uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and symbols) and unique (only used on the Parent Portal).
2. Never share passwords, even with loved ones. Each student should have the primary contacts, usually primary 1 and primary 2, follow their progress in Parent Portal. Each contact should have their own unique account login access.
3. Never share sensitive information, like your student’s date of birth or student ID number in the body of an email or via text. When sharing this information with loved ones to set up an account, share the information in person or over the phone.
4. When setting up challenge questions, choose a question that is hard for others to answer. You can even make up a response, just be sure you’ll remember it! Avoid using questions and answers related to information that is publicly available about you, like the school you graduated from, or information you post on your social media account, like your favorite animal, movie or book.
5. Beware of phishing email scams! Official emails from Parent Portal come from aspen-do-not-reply@cps.edu <aspen-sysadmin@myfollett.com>. Always confirm an email from Parent Portal is coming from this address. If it’s not, then it’s a scam! Delete the email and get on with your day. If you suspect you’ve fallen for a phishing email that compromised your login credentials, immediately log in to the Parent Portal and reset your password.

Parent Portal has some built-in features to ensure the security of your student’s information:

• Password reset notifications. When a password reset is attempted, you will receive an email notification from aspen-do-not-reply@cps.edu <aspen-sysadmin@myfollett.com> to the email address on file. If you did not attempt the password reset yourself, it indicates someone else is trying to change your password to get access to your account. The good news? The bad actor does NOT have your password and cannot get into your account. The bad news? The bad actor does have your email address. Make sure to use a strong password to protect your email account as well.
• Challenge questions at login. These security questions and answers serve as a second form of user identification to help ensure only the authorized user can log into the account.

I have multiple children in CPS, but I do not have Parent Portal access for all of them. How can I fix this?

Please contact your school if you are experiencing this issue. There are a few reasons why this might be happening, which we have listed below for your reference. Your school will be able to determine which of these reasons is causing the issue and resolve it for you.

1. We do not have you listed as a contact in Aspen for your children.
2. The former system contained multiple accounts for you, possibly with conflicting information (e.g., different names, home addresses, email addresses, phone numbers). In Aspen, your contact information should be verified and merged into a single account in order for all of your children to appear in your Parent Portal account. This allows for more efficient security and management. Your school can help ensure that the correct contact record is attached to your children.

Aspen allows credit card and eCheck payments via the Parent Portal. Payments are processed via e-Pay, CPS’ authorized vendor for credit card and eCheck processing. View the payment quick guide [ English | Spanish ] for step-by-step instructions for making a payment through Aspen. 

If you do not have a home computer, you can still access the Aspen Parent Portal in a variety of ways:

• Use a mobile device or tablet to access the portal
• Check with your child’s school to see if they have a designated computer
• Use your valid Chicago Public Library (CPL) card at any branch to access the portal

The following information is not available in Aspen:

• School announcements. Please visit your school’s website for upcoming events.
• Elementary cumulative cards and high school transcripts. Please contact your child’s school for transcripts.
• Progress reports and report cards. Please contact your school for your child's progress reports and report cards.
