Evidence shows that healthy students have better attendance patterns and perform better academically. The State of Illinois requires parents/guardians to provide proof of
required immunizations and school physical exams, eye exams, and dental exams. Most requirements are due by October 15th, however, Dental Examinations are required for students in Grades K, 2, 6, and 9 by May 15th. CPS encourages parents to schedule their health appointments now to be prepared for the State's requirements.
Health insurance can provide children and their families with health care coverage that can be used for doctor’s visits, immunizations, medications, dental care,eye exams, glasses, and more!
Medicaid Insurance provides coverage for children in, Illinois, regardless of immigration status.

Vision Services
Healthy eyes and vision are a critical part of a child’s development. Children’s eyes should be examined regularly, as many vision problems and eye disorders can be detected and treated early. CPS offers students vision examinations and access to glasses if needed.

Dental Services
CPS offers dental services to all students at no cost to families. Students should receive a dental cleaning every 6 months to maintain healthy teeth. The school-based dental program allows students to receive their dental cleaning with limited loss of class time.

School-Based Health Centers
School-based health centers are primary health care sites located in schools or nearby schools. Services include but are not limited to: immunizations, physical exams, sports physicals, behavioral healthcare, chronic condition management, sexual and reproductive health care, and acute care. Students can access health services at no out-of-pocket cost. Most services require parent or caregiver consent. Some SBHCs are available to the community and to neighboring schools. Call ahead before making an appointment.

Community Health Clinics
Federally Qualified Health Centers provide comprehensive, culturally competent, high-quality primary health care services as well as supportive services such as health education, translation, and transportation that promote access to health care. Centers provide services regardless of a patient’s ability to pay and charge for services on a sliding fee scale.
