Students from Chicago Public Schools Chosen for Full-tuition Scholarships Through Posse Foundation
25 February 2025
Seventy-three CPS students were selected for the prestigious scholarship, making up the majority of the 2025 class of Posse Scholars
CHICAGO – Dozens of graduating seniors from Chicago Public Schools (CPS) will be entering universities with full scholarships this fall, after recently learning they were selected to be part of this year’s prestigious group of “Posse Scholars.”
The Posse Foundation releases the awards annually, recognizing students who are positive and motivated leaders in their high schools and communities, with a commitment to education, teamwork and diversity. As in previous years, CPS students make up the majority of the 2025 class of Posse Scholars – 73 out of the 116 Chicago-area students awarded.
“We are incredibly grateful to the Posse Foundation for recognizing the talent and drive of our District’s amazing students,” said CPS CEO Pedro Martinez. “CPS students continue, year after year, to make up the majority of Posse Scholars. To me, this shows that our mission is working and we are upholding a public education system in Chicago that provides opportunities for some of the best and brightest of our next generation.”
The Posse Foundation, established in 1989, identifies, recruits, and trains students nationally from local public high schools and sends them in multicultural teams — posses — of 10 students to colleges and universities across the country. Award recipients have collectively won about $2.45 billion in full‐tuition merit scholarships from Posse partner schools. Posse scholars earn scholarships based on student leadership abilities, work in team settings, and a desire to succeed, among other criteria.
“The Posse Foundation is deeply committed to providing talented young people with the opportunity to thrive in higher education and beyond,” said Posse Foundation President and Founder Deborah Bial. “These 73 students from Chicago Public Schools have demonstrated exceptional leadership. Their success is a testament to their hard work and determination, and we are excited to see the positive impact they will make on campus and in their communities.”
